The Power of the Peach
What’s the difference between a burlesque dancer and a stripper? Lolly Gag is here to answer this age old cunundrum by using math, produce, and a little common sense to set the record straight. The short answer? A stripper makes money. All joking aside, the main point of differentiation is where the power lies.
A stripper works in the “service’ industry. She’s there for the money and she’ll do whatever it takes to get it. No shame in that kids. We all have to pay the bills. But, her strip is specifically geared toward the penises in the room .The more the penises pay attention, the more she gets paid. See? So, let’s represent a stripper’s dance this way- The main focus in stripping here is anatomy- hers and theirs. So Stripper+Anatomy=Y. And Y=”Plum”. (Yes, Lolly Gag is using a new form of apples and oranges,so, please bare with! )
Now, a burlesque dancer on the other hand choses who, where, and what her strip tease contains. She is not under the penis’s rule. She makes her own rules. Her audience is at least half women., She shows only a whisper of her body, with the promise of more.
She can be funny, political, rambunctious, dangerous, glamourous or any combination of adverbs. She is teasing the audience with a strip because she knows how you are. She knows that once she gets your attention with the first bra strap dropping, whatever else she has to tell you, you’ll listen. She doesn’t do it for money. She does it for love. A burlesque dancer is a theatrical being. The people in her audience cheer her on because they recognize intelligence in how she does what she does. Her performance is like a secret handshake. She knows you might be turned on, but she’s most likely going to make fun of that without you being offended. Is she showing off her body? Hells yeah. But the main focus of a burlesque dancer’s performance lies between her ears. She’s going to get your atteniton first kiddies, and then blow your mind.
So her stip tease can be represented like this: Burlesque Dancer+innovation=X . And X=”Peach”.
And now for the finale of this mathmatical fruit equation….Plums and Peaches both have pits. They are both round, juicy, and in the same color palette. They are both fruit. But they are not the same. They do not taste the same. They are different. Y is not X. X is not Y. Yes, Y and X are both letters of the alphabet.. But no one is signing the end of their love lettters “YOYOYOYO”( well, maybe somewhere!) You sign a love letter…XOXOXO, right? This will help you all remember the difference between a stripper and a burlesque dancer..
Now, do yourselves a favor and go to one of the many burlesque festivals and shows and see for yourself. Here’s a list to keep you satisfied for an entire year! (And Ed Barnas, is one hell of a photographer, too! ) http://www.edbarnas.com/
Yes, Lolly Gab used fruit to make a point. It’s called Kitch.

The House of Chanel drinks up Dirty Martini
Legendary burlesque queen Dirty Martini shook up the pages of “V” ‘s January/February 2010 shape issue. The photo shoot which took place in Coco Chanel’s historic apartment in Paris, left us all deliciously woozy. Karl Lagerfeld has finally developed a taste for something other than the “usual” long, cool drink of water and we could have told him that once you have a taste for Dirty Martini, nothing else will suffice!
